The challenge

An ambitious target on a modest budget.

A 6–8x ROAS goal on $3–4k a month

High return targets and small budgets pull against each other. There isn't room to buy your way out of a bad test, so almost everything has to be earned through creative and targeting rather than spend.

High-ticket products on a cold feed

Individual pieces run into the hundreds of dollars. Nobody buys a $800 metal sculpture on first impression, which makes the middle and bottom of the funnel matter far more than the top.

Photographs that don't do the product justice

The appeal of this work is how light moves across the metal — which a flat product shot loses entirely. The creative had to solve that before the targeting mattered at all.

What we did

Creative first, then everything else.

Built creative that showed the product moving

Lifestyle photography, close-ups of individual sculptures, and video — because video is the only format that captures the way light travels across the metal. That single decision did more for performance than any targeting change.

Dynamic product ads for retargeting

Visitors who left without buying were shown the exact pieces they had viewed, alongside related work, with a 10% offer attached. On a high-ticket product with a long consideration window, this became the highest-return part of the account.

Continuous A/B testing across every variable

Ad formats, targeting options and bidding strategies were tested against each other continuously, ad set by ad set, rather than being set once and left alone.

Concentrated budget on what proved itself

Of 146 ad sets built over the engagement, a small handful carried the account. Retargeting and conversion-optimised prospecting were funded; everything that didn't clear the bar was switched off rather than propped up.

A note on the period

This engagement ran from February 2020 to March 2023 — before the current RoundTrip brand existed, and under a previous agency banner. The work and the account are the same; the name on the door has changed. It sits here as track record rather than current-quarter proof.
